Training Platform

What is this for
Online Training Structure and Qualification Pathway
To become a qualified ThinkBike Marshal, all learners are required to complete a structured training programme aligned to QCTO principles. This programme is delivered through a combination of online learning, class-based training, practical assessment, and workplace experience. Each component plays a critical role in ensuring competence, consistency, and operational readiness.
Access to the Online Learning Platform
Each marshal will be allocated a personal login to the ThinkBike online learning platform. Login details will be sent directly to the marshal’s registered email address. Once logged in, learners will have access to their assigned courses, progress tracking, and learning resources.
Mandatory courses will be automatically allocated to each marshal. Optional or voluntary courses may be added on request and must be arranged through the Head Marshal (HM).
Mandatory Online Training (Core Qualification)
The mandatory online training forms the core knowledge requirement for all ThinkBike Marshals and must be completed in full.
This includes: • Accredited foundational learning material required for QCTO-aligned training • ThinkBike 101 Marshalling Training • ThinkBike 201 Marshalling Training
These courses focus on marshalling principles, safety, positioning, traffic interaction, and operational decision-making. Successful completion of the mandatory online components is required before progression to practical assessment and workplace exposure.
Supporting Operational Understanding Courses
In addition to marshalling-specific training, marshals are required to complete supporting courses that build understanding of the broader event environment.
These include: • Communication Training – understanding structured communication, radio discipline, and coordination • Event Captain (EC) Awareness – understanding event setup, planning, and marshal coordination • Joint Operations Centre (JOC) Awareness – understanding live event control, escalation, and situational management
These courses ensure that marshals understand how their role fits into the wider event structure and how decisions are made during live operations.
Safety Officer
The Safety Officer course is included as part of the learning pathway to support self-development and upskilling. This course provides marshals with an understanding of safety responsibilities, legal expectations, and the requirements of an event organiser. It strengthens awareness of risk management and compliance, even where the marshal is not performing a formal safety officer role.
Voluntary / Optional Courses
Voluntary courses are available for marshals who wish to further develop their skills and knowledge. These courses are not mandatory but are strongly encouraged.
Examples include: • First Aid • Fire Fighting / Fire Marshal Training
Voluntary courses may be requested through the HM and will be added to the learner’s profile where available.
Practical Training and Workplace Experience
Online learning is supported by class-based sessions, practical training, and workplace experience. Marshals are required to demonstrate that they can apply their learning in real event environments under supervision.
This blended approach ensures that qualification is based not only on theory, but on proven competence, judgement, and safe operational behaviour.
